Essentials
Convert images: JPG, PNG and WebP
Convert between JPG, PNG and WebP in your browser. Transparency is never flattened silently and metadata is removed by default.
No upload. No account. Nothing stored.

How it works
Open a JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF or GIF and convert it to JPEG, PNG or WebP. Image checks which formats this browser can actually export: AVIF appears only if your browser can encode it — today, browsers don't, so it's shown as unavailable rather than silently saving something else.
Transparency: PNG and WebP keep it. JPEG can't store it, so when a transparent image is converted to JPEG, Image asks which colour the transparent areas should become — white, black or a custom colour. Nothing is flattened without your choice.
Metadata: converted files carry no EXIF, GPS, camera or software details. Colour is converted to standard sRGB by the browser.
Worked example
A 320 × 240 PNG logo with a transparent background converted to WebP keeps its transparency and typically shrinks by 30–60%.
The same logo converted to JPEG first asks for a background; choosing White produces a solid white rectangle behind the logo — exactly what you asked for, rather than an accidental black box.
Edge cases handled
- AVIF export: disabled with an explanation when the browser can't encode it.
- AVIF input: opened where the browser supports it; otherwise a clear message.
- GIF and animated WebP/PNG: first frame only, after explicit confirmation.
- HEIC and SVG: not supported in Phase 1, with a reason.
- Converting to the same format still removes metadata (named “-converted”).
- Formats are detected from file contents, not extensions.
